Dear Alumni and Friends:
For the past 54 years, the Foundation of the Medical College of Georgia (MCGF) has faithfully served you, our donors and friends,
in providing a vehicle for charitable
gifts to support and advance the
Medical College of Georgia. This year, the Foundation
provided over $364,000 in scholarship funding to over
155 students. Additionally, we made available over $600,000
in research funding and over $500,000 for patient care at
the MCG Children’s Medical Center and other MCGHealth
programs. Over the course of the past 18 years, the
Foundation has provided over $89 million to support MCG’s
mission of education, research and patient care.
In June, as many of you know, the Foundation was informed
by MCG President Daniel W. Rahn that, at his direction, the
Board of Regents moved to cancel our affiliation agreement,
which had previously been signed in 2005. This action
does not change our leadership, role or responsibilities. The
Foundation operated for over 40 years in full support of MCG
without any official written agreement with the Board of
Regents. The Board of Directors will continue operating the
MCG Foundation as it always has, as a private entity in full
possession of the donor funds entrusted to it. The Foundation
will continue to support MCG by funding endowed chairs,
research and scholarships according to each donor’s
wishes. We can and will continue to receive donations from
our donors and friends, maximizing our assets with wise
investment strategies. We take our fiduciary responsibilities
very seriously.
If you have any questions, you are encouraged to contact
any member of the Board of Directors or the Foundation’s
President and CEO, James B. Osborne, Sr., EdD.
Sincerely,
William E. Mayher, III, MD
MCG Foundation Chairman of the Board
