Bella J. May Achievement Award

The Bella J. May Award is established to recognize the entry-level student who shows the greatest potential for becoming a caring, competent, creative, and contributing member of the profession. The award shall include a monetary prize of not less than $500, a plaque, and the recipient’s name engraved on a permanent plaque located in the Department of Physical Therapy.
A second award may be made to the graduating post-professional student who has exhibited the same qualifications and potential and who, prior to entering the program, has provided evidence of professional competence, involvement, and creativity. This award shall also include a monetary prize of not less than $500, a plaque, and the recipient’s name engraved on the permanent departmental plaque.
Both monetary awards may increase as the annual endowment distribution allows.
If sufficient funds remain after the two awards are made, the remaining income may be used to support professional activities for entry-level or post-professional students. Appropriate activities may include assistance with travel and expenses associated with presenting at an APTA conference, participating in a National Student Conclave, or other similar professional activities.

A committee of three persons will be responsible for the selection of the speakers and associated duties.
